Welcome Message

May I have the pleasure of welcoming you to the website of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Indonesia is one of the first few countries that recognised Bangladesh in February 1972 and Father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman reciprocated the gesture by instructing to open this Embassy immediately. Over the last more than four decades after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia, the Embassy has been working to strengthen Bangladesh-Indonesia bilateral relations by way of arranging exchanges of visits by leaders, ministers, high officials and businessmen. People-to-people contact has also increased significantly over these years. Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Indonesia in December 2011 when she had meeting with then Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and in April 2015 when she had first bilateral meeting with new President of Indonesia Joko Widodo. The two leaders appreciating excellent bilateral relations exiting between Dhaka and Jakarta, underscored that Bangladesh and Indonesia being the market of 160 million and 260 million people respectively have tremendous potentials to significantly increase the present bilateral trade of 1.2 billion US dollar and widen cooperation in other economic fields. Indonesia being source of many raw materials and mineral resources and Bangladesh’s growing capacity in RMG, medicine and ship building sectors provide much opportunity for both the countries.

Bangladesh and Indonesia having had experience of authoritarian rule in the past are presently working hard to strengthen democracy, establish a tolerant and pluralistic society, combat religious extremism and violent terrorism and implement development programmes and activities to improve the economic and social life of common people. Both the countries also hold similar views on many international, regional issues as well as matters concerning the Muslim Ummah.

Bangladesh Embassy in Jakarta is concurrently accredited to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. The Embassy has been working to further expand growing relations of Bangladesh with these two countries. A number of Bangladeshis are already engaged in business, professional and other works in these two countries with reputation. The Embassy is also accredited to the ASEAN since last two years and presently working with the ASEAN Secretariat and its member countries to pursue Bangladesh’s interest vis-à-vis ASEAN.

In this website, the Indonesian and interested persons will find basic and first-hand information about Bangladesh; its people, culture and potentials along with the linkages with the important websites of the Ministries and Departments of the Government of Bangladesh including, those relating to trade, investment, tourism and education. Visa related information and relevant forms are also available in this website. The Embassy will be pleased to extend all possible assistance that you might need in visiting to or investing in Bangladesh or any other matters. Your comments or suggestions will also be deeply appreciated.

Md. Nazmul Quaunine
